Dental Fluorosis: What You Should Know

Posted .

Would you be surprised to hear that there are a number of steps you should take to keep your kid’s teeth healthy? For example, you may know that you should help your children keep their pearly whites clean. Brushing and flossing are also important to caring for your oral health, but have you heard that you should avoid giving your child toothpaste that has fluoride in it? You can usually give your child toothpaste with fluoride in it until they can spit it out on their own. While fluoride may help your children avoid cavities, ingesting too much fluoride might cause fluorosis.

Please remember that fluorosis isn’t an incredibly serious issue, but it might be embarrassing. Your child could have fluorosis if they have white spots or unusual lines on their pearly whites. Fluorosis might also cause brown spots to form on your child’s smile. If you’re concerned about these imperfections, we suggest contacting our team for personalized advice.

Fortunately, there are a number of things you could do to help your little avoid fluorosis, which is important because your child will only develop fluorosis when their teeth are developing. This means you should make sure your little ones are spitting their toothpaste out after they’ve brushed their teeth. As you might already know, children are exposed to fluoride when they drink water because fluoride is added to water to fight off tooth decay. You should also limit the amount of toothpaste your child puts on their brush.
